Remember when wireless charging felt like a futuristic novelty, and magnetic accessories were mostly something Apple fans got to enjoy with MagSafe? Fast forward to 2025, and OnePlus is making waves with its OnePlus 13 series, giving magnetic charging and accessory compatibility a fresh spin. If you’ve ever wished Android had a snap-on experience as smooth as MagSafe, OnePlus is asking for your attention.

Along with the OnePlus 13 and 13R, the firm is launching a series of magnetic accessories, such as the Sandstone Magnetic case, Wood Grain Magnetic Half-pack case, and Aramid Fiber Magnetic case. They’re not just looking good—they’re designed to open up the OnePlus ecosystem and provide a MagSafe-style experience. The top-of-the-line OnePlus 13 even includes premium case options, which indicates that OnePlus is also positioning itself to compete in the same accessory space as Apple.
OnePlus isn’t resting there. In China, it already retails a 5,000mAh magnetic power bank and the AIRVOOC 50W Magnetic Wireless Charger, and these are now making their way to international markets like India with the OnePlus 13 release. The AIRVOOC charger is a compact puck design featuring a built-in fan and is designed to make fast wireless charging more accessible. It’s bold, albeit reviewers say it’s not flawless.
OnePlus 13 has Qi2 wireless charging support at 15W right out of the box, which indicates compatibility with most third-party magnetic chargers and accessories. However, unlike Apple iPhones, the OnePlus 13 does not come with built-in magnets on the phone. The magnetic experience is solely provided through the official cases. Magnets are needed for a phone to be officially branded as Qi2 by the Wireless Power Consortium, but OnePlus gets around this with “Qi2 Ready” capability when accompanied by a magnetic case.
In addition to that, OnePlus has its own AIRVOOC wireless charging technology, which is able to supply up to 50W when used with a compatible charger and case. That’s much faster than standard Qi2 speeds, but it comes with some requirements: a specific SuperVOOC power plug, the official magnetic case, and sometimes even a special insert depending on your phone’s color. It’s a bit fiddly, but the reward is one of the fastest wireless charging experiences you’ll find without a cable.
In actual usage, reviewers determined that the AIRVOOC 50W Magnetic Charger will charge the OnePlus 13’s 6,000mAh battery in roughly 83 minutes—albeit longer than promised at 75 minutes. That’s fast for wireless charging, but still not as fast as simply plugging in a cable, which takes roughly 35 minutes. There are a couple of idiosyncrasies: the charger fan isn’t very quiet, which is frustrating at night, and you can’t charge your phone face-up without a stand. Tacking on the charger, case, and any inserts, you’re spending upwards of $150 or more.
OnePlus decided to place the magnets in the cases instead of inside the phones for a very good reason. Integrated magnets can disrupt internal components and degrade over time. Placing them in the case means users are able to replace them if the magnets lose their strength, rather than having to replace the entire phone. It’s sensible if it does require you to have the case for the full magnetic effect.
All things being equal, OnePlus has come a long way in creating a magnetic accessory ecosystem that can hold its own against Apple’s MagSafe. With Qi2 support, rapid proprietary charging, and an expanding catalog of magnetic accessories, the OnePlus 13 series brings Android users a true flavor of the magnetic charging ease that users of Apple have been enjoying for years. It isn’t ideal—the design is finicky, and accessories are extra—but for people who crave the speed and convenience of magnetic charging, OnePlus is now providing a compelling alternative. The magnetic revolution is no longer an Apple tale.
